Do You Know What Other Global Mobility Managers Are Thinking? (Part 2)

In part 1 of this article, we shared with you the answers to the first two questions we asked attendees at the recent Worldwide ERC Global Workforce Symposium:

1. Describe your mobility program in one word.

Here, in part 2, let's look at questions 3 and 4 -

4. What are you looking for in a relocation management company?

We received lots of great answers, and a few central themes were popular. Here's what we found out.

Those who answered this question highlighted a few ways to define the success of their global mobility programs:

  • Quality customer service
  • Focused partnership
  • Happiness of both managers and assignees (and their families!)

Quality customer service is always a benchmark for a good service provider, so it’s no surprise that companies may base their definition of success for their global mobility program on the customer service they receive. Along the same line of thought, a focused partnership with your service provider can certainly lead to a successful program. Working together and listening to each other is the best way to create a product that everyone can be happy with. And we all know that one of the best measures of success is simply that everyone is happy with the result! But with employee relocations, you’re not just trying to please those relocating. The happiness of those managing the assignees for the company is paramount.



Question #4: What are you looking for in a relocation management company?

Question #4’s answers touch on those above – managers want a relocation management company that can deliver a successful program. Specifically, these are the areas we saw highlighted repeatedly:

A partner who will work with us to create a specific program that suits our needs and not just deliver a standard product. Specific comments included:

  • Company that will build solution our way
  • Cooperation
  • Partnership
  • Communication
  • Business partner
  • Flexibility
  • Collaboration

A relocation management company we can trust – someone who will provide us with what we need while being up front about costs, program needs, etc. Some of the buzzwords written on our board were:

  • Fair play
  • Transparency
  • Open communication and confidence
  • Honesty
A provider who will get the job done well every time without a lot of trouble, while providing top customer service. We heard words like:
  • Effectiveness
  • Efficiency
  • Consistent
  • Excellent service

We really enjoyed this exercise and getting to discuss these questions with the attendees of the symposium. Listening to our clients and others in the global mobility world is a top priority at Lexicon, and it’s always helpful to analyze and reflect on what they – and you – have to say.
